Think about additional needs
Some challenges to writing
It’s possible that a number of pupils in your class find writing challenging: they may struggle with handwriting or spelling, lack confidence in their own ideas, or they may simply not be interested in the topic they are writing about.
Hopefully, the inspiring projects and practical resources on this site will help to build their confidence and capture their imaginations. The interactive tool to create personalised writing tasks for individual pupils will also help you to address the needs and interests of reluctant writers.
But some children face more specific challenges where the development of their writing skills is concerned. They may have conditions that affect cognition such as dyslexia or dyspraxia; they may experience sensory deprivation such as visual impairment or deafness; or they may be affected by behavioural, social or communication conditions such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), or disorders on the Autistic spectrum.
While most children benefit from the use of a range of approaches to writing, differentiating approaches for pupils with additional needs is particularly important. This website features a number of writing projects which were tailored to support and inspire pupils with special educational needs.
