Every object tells a story

Using objects as a stimulus for writing

Organisation: Victorian and Albert Museum, Ultralab, Channel 4

Aim: To explore the use of objects that people value as a stimulus for writing.

Summary: A project funded by the DCMS that took place at London’s Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A) and partner museums in Tyne and Wear, Birmingham and Brighton where adults and children were able to contribute stories about objects, using a variety of genres.

Stories are stimulated by objects as diverse as a grandfather’s watch or a quirky pint glass. Everyone is invited to contribute stories and read the tales of others. The online archive is still viewable online as stimulus for teachers wishing to try a similar approach with their students.  Similar initiatives are now common at many museums and galleries.
