Raising attainment in reading and writing
Organisation: Scottish Executive Education Department
Aim: To raise attainment in reading and writing from P6 (Year 5) to S2 (Year 8) whilst encouraging effective curricular liaison between teachers and schools in different sectors.
Summary: Building Bridges was a national pilot project managed by Learning and Teaching Scotland. Each local authority project was unique. Each was underpinned by different needs and had a different starting point.
The project ran from 2003-5, and the discussion of research, exploration of literacy skills, methodologies and innovative practice were given the opportunity to flourish. Full case studies are available to download or read online.
