Peru’s foremost and most distinguished writer, Mario Vargas Llosa, will give the very first Chancellor’s Lecture introduced by the Chancellor of The University of Oxford, Lord Patten, in the Sheldonian Theatre - designed by the seventeenth century architect Sir Christopher Wren. Wedgwood, England’s finest china company, brings us The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu to talk about Englishness in celebration of their 250th anniversary. And the eminent historian David Starkey will talk about Henry VIII.

Cambridge Wordfest
April 22nd - April 26th 2009
An annual literature festival held in the spring in Cambridge and surrounding area. It aims to provide a richly packed weekend of some of the best in contemporary fiction, political debate, workshops and events for children. It is a festival for writers as well as readers. Authors who have attended in the past include: Carol Ann Duffy, Lionel Shriver, Andrew Cowan, Kathryn Hughes, Helen Dunmore, Geraldine McCaughrean, Sandi Toksvig and Marina Lewicka.
