Talking for Learning and Life inset
November 25 2010
Developing ‘Talk for Writing’ to fulfil potential across the curriculum: A National Literacy Trust conference for primary school professionals with Pie Corbett, Julia Strong and Judy Clarke
Botanical Gardens, Birmingham.
This conference again builds on the very successful Primary National Strategy (PNS) Talk for Writing materials developed by Pie Corbett supported by Julia Strong. The PNS materials focused on fiction but Pie, Julia and Judy have been working with a number of authorities to adapt the approach to suit the needs of communication across the curriculum. Pie will exemplify how to use fiction text to help children internalise the patterns of language of a range of non-fiction text types, and then show how to adapt the approach across the curriculum so that children become confident communicators in all non-fiction areas. All material presented will be different from last year and will include an emphasis on talking and writing recount, persuasion and discussion text.
