Reporting from the dinosaur dig
Saltdean Primary School near Brighton staged a one-day reporting event based on Broomwood Primary School’s alien-landing event.
For their first Everybody Writes Day, staff liaised with the local museum, a vet, police and a journalist from the local paper to stage the discovery of dinosaur bones in the school playground. Pupils were able to examine the site, question visiting experts, brainstorm what might have happened and write newspaper reports incorporating key facts, witness statements and expert evidence. Staff at Saltdean got the whole school writing with a real sense of energy and purpose.
