Everybody Writes Day
A day of publishing, podcasting & engineering
Quilley School of Engineering in Hampshire is one of only two engineering schools in England. For its first Everybody Writes Day, Quilley ran a varied and ambitious programme of writing events which culminated in publishing, broadcasting and pod-casting.
With an interest in all things mechanical, students welcomed the opportunity to check out a top of the range Mini and to interview representatives of its manufacturers, BMW, before writing up a Jeremy-Clarkson style review of the car. A footballer from Southampton FC was interviewed by students who wrote a player profile before being taught how to write a referee’s report by a Hampshire FA referee. With notepads, microphones, cameras and more, students were able to capture their experiences and share them on the school website at the end of the day. By making the connection between writing in the real world and writing in the classroom, Quilley School was able to get everybody writing.
