Everybody Writes Day

Everybody Writes Day is an annual celebration of writing in schools. Primary and secondary schools collapse the curriculum for one whole day to celebrate writing in all its forms.  Every pupil and staff member gets to enjoy writing – including catering staff, site managers and parent volunteers.  Schools may choose to run one big writing event to engage all pupils, or opt for a series of playful and engaging writing activities.

Everybody Writes Day was on Friday 16th October 2009, but you could plan to hold your own Everybody Writes Day at another time of year, perhaps coinciding with an Arts Week or Summer Fair.

To start planning your own Everybody Writes Day:

To find out what schools did for Everybody Writes Day, watch a video clip of Macaulay Primary School’s Everybody Writes Day or a short film of how Oakwood Primary School planned its own Everybody Writes project. See what Tidemill Primary School and Colemore Infant School did this year, or get a quick insight into how a number of other primary and secondary schools celebrated the day across the country. Read an article from the Times newspaper on why Everybody Writes is effective in inspiring not only pupils, but teachers as well.
